Well it's almost 18mths since i did what i always said i'd never do...take out a phone contract.
Unfortunately a once little known Silicon Valley technology company called Apple, decided to reinvent the smartphone and i broke off with every principle in my pathetic and mortal body.
However, that's all about to come to an end on the 4th January.
If you were one of those people who queued around the corner of your local O2 or Car Phone Warehouse 18 mths ago, then you, like me, can now start the process of legally unlocking your iPhone F.O.C.
Thanks to Google and a bit of keyword research i stumbled across the official unlocking webpage (see above link) of O2 buried deep in the archives and well out the way of the public eye.
The official O2 line is: 'Your iPhone can be unlocked at anytime free of charge. If you unlock your handset and place a non-O2 sim into it, you will still have to honour the remainder of the minimum term on your contract.'
Sounds fair enough to me and given the impending Xmas holidays, i better fill the form out now. That way they should have the wheels in motion come the 4th of January.
On the subject of iPhone and O2, i have enjoyed pretty much glitch free 3G coverage in my area but have had mixed reactions from various people using the service.
How has your experience with O2 and the iPhone been and will you be changing providers now Apple have opened the phone to Orange, Vodafone and eventually T-Mobile?
