Saturday was just so bad with rain and wind that i had to give it a miss. So i turned out today (Sunday) despite the cold, wet and very high winds, determined to get at least one side of the plot clear of the long grass.

Long Overgrown Grass SodsWhen i say one side what i really mean is half a whole side. One side being an 8th of and acre, the other side, which we share, is half that again. So i figure if i can get the smaller side at least clear and then dug over, then as the weather improves towards spring i can get some vegetables and flowers growing while i worry about the really big bit.

It was also really spooky on the plot today with all the wind causing the metal sheets to creak with not a soul in sight. Even Ron who’s been here for centuries didn’t make an appearance. Still i figured if i can stick it out on days like today then it’ll make it all worth while in the end.

I have read in many books that it’s not wise to dig the soil when it’s wet as it damages the structure, but i just had to get stuck in and get it done, especially as were heading towards December and hopefully some frosts which should help break the soil down and kill a few exposed roots.

It seemed really dark all day and i had to pack up at 3 because the light was fading fast, but i managed to clear all the grass sods on one side ready for digging over.
