I got up this morning feeling more than a bit stiff after yesterday’s 8-hour battle with the triffids and rubbish.
This time i’ve got reinforcements with my wife Jackie and my youngest son Jacob turning out to help and am i going to need it as i can barely move my arms and legs.
We started off in the same manner as yesterday and managed to clear most of the rubbish and nettles from the corner, although we have a long way to go, it looked like we made good progress. We didn’t dig up the roots of the nettles as we had planned because it took so long picking up bits of glass and large stones out of the soil we simply ran out of time and energy.
There were also a few dead rats lying amongst the weeds and rubbish and the smell followed me all the way home until i had a bath. Still we laboured on and managed to stack a lot of the rubbish ready for the council to collect at a later date.
One thing i did notice was the way different weed groups were clustered together around the plot. These were mainly nettles, docs and long grass with a few others which were unfamiliar to me, Horsetail excluded. I understand nettles like acidic soil along with docs but i’m not sure about grass. In certain area’s of the site only grass grew and yet in other parts just nettles with a few docs. So maybe it was the way the previous tenant worked the soil?
So another 8-hours put in and it’s off home for some food, a bath and a very early night.
