GarageBand Installation

Installing GarageBand

If your Mac was bought before February 2004, it probably didn't come with GarageBand pre-installed (or the rest of the iLife '04' bundle). You will therefor need to buy a copy of the iLife '04' bundle, as GarageBand is not available as a standalone application.

Garageband Installation is straightforward; simply insert DVD and double-click on the installer package. You can then step through the installation process by clicking the continue button, accepting the license agreement and selecting an install volume.

At the 'Installation Type' stage, the various iLife components can be selected for installation - make sure GarageBand is selected before proceeding.

Attention Get an iLife
There is no denying that the iLife software bundle offers fantastic value for money. £39 buys you no less than five state-of-the-art applications, which not only work well on there own but also integrate perfectly together. Some would argue that the iLife suite alone is a good enough reason to go out and buy a Mac!

Installation from Software Restore.

If you have bought a new computer since February 2004 and have re-installed your system at some stage, you may not have GarageBand installed by default (although the rest of the iLife applications are usually installed as standard).

If GarageBand is not present in your system's Application folder, you will need to install it from the Software Restore discs that came with your computer. To do this, insert the first restore disc and open the package named 'Install Applications & Classic Support'. Click through the installation process, accepting the license and choosing a target volume. Make sure GarageBand is selected for installation and de-select any unwanted components to conserve disk space.

iLife Installation

The process of installing GarageBand is a little different if you are doing it from your Software Restore discs .
