System Requirements For GarageBand
GarageBand's system requirements really do represent the absolute minimum needed to make basic use of the application. As a rough guide, GarageBand should run on an Apple computer which is less than 18mths old, but the exact requirements will depend on how you intend to use the application.
For example, when using GarageBand as a basic multi-track recorder, a G3-based system should prove perfectly adequate, as long as plenty of RAM and hard disk space is available. On the other hand, if you would like to use effects and Software Instruments (covered later), a high end G4 or G5 system is the realistic minimum.
Disk Space
A complete installation of the entire iLife '04' bundle consumes around 4.3GB of hard disk space and GarageBand accounts for the majority of this. Hard disk performance tends to tail off as a disk fills up, so your hard disk should be less than half full after installing GarageBand - you will need plenty of space for recording songs anyway!
Note: Although the rest of the iLife application can be installed from CD, GarageBand requires a DVD drive for installation, although this can be in the form of a DVD-ROM, CD-R/DVD combo or DVD-R drive.
