Burned Out Clutch

Having lots of fun this weekend with the nitro car but so much fun that i managed to burn the clutch out. I must admit i was suprised at this as the car is only 3 weeks old and its only the 6th time out.

Burned Out ClutchAs you may be able to see by the picture the stainless steel slipper plate (on the right) is welded to the plastic disk hub. These are supposed to be seperate items but they are not coming apart without some force.

The part next to this is the 56 tooth spur gear with slipper clutch pad also welded to it. Again these are supposed to be seperate parts, in fact the clutch pads are supposed to come in two’s so god only knows where the other bit is.

The great thing is about these HPI nitro cars is they are really easy to work on. You can take the engine out for maintainence or to clean it by removing 4 screws from underneath the car and one screw that holds the exhaust to the body. A quick removal of the fuel pipe and throttle linkage and its out.

There’s also plenty of tutorials on the web and the HPI website to help you as well. So it’s off to buy some bits and back out for some more fun. This new hobby could get expensive.

Google Earth Out For The Mac

Whoooohoo! its finally happened as Google release Google Earth for the Mac. This is one app i do use on my PC but can’t really appreciate it on a small screen with cheap crappy graphics card. Now i can browse the earth below using my G5 with 20″ Apple Cinema Display.

Well done to all you Google geeks for getting this out so soon :-)

Rush Nitro

Rush Nitro Evo RTRI used to have an old Optima Pro 4 wheel drive RC car about 17 yrs ago and had to stop playing due to long hours and weekends working. Now i have the weekends off i’m getting back into it and just bought myself a Rush Evo 2 RTR (pictured below) from HPI

It’s a nitro car and i’m amazed at the speed compared to the models i used to dabble in. Of course my dream car is the Savage 25 monster truck (pictured below). Now that looks a serious bit of kit and looks like it could climb a mountain.

savage 25So it’s weekends outside in the fresh air for me and away from the computer (don’t i need it) and living only a few miles from the RC track, it’ll be perfect to mingle with the RC geeks during the spring and summer months and pick up a few tips along the way.

If any of you readers are into these nitro cars or own a Savage 25, maybe you could give me some pro’s and cons and tips as i’m a relative newbie to all this.

From what i am hearing the Savage is one of the best monster trucks in its class and is very robust and reliable. Almost unbreakable from what i am hearing.
