iPod Mini: Like A Phoenix From The Ashes
Somethings never die! Or at least not as far as fans of the iPod Mini they don’t.
According to CNET the iPod mini is still top of the xmas list, despite the Nano replacing it September.
In fact one customer payed $76 dollars more than the retail price ($199) for a 4GB Mini in Pink. Although he probably didn’t realise he could have bought one from Compu-America–one of the few electronics retailers with the Mini in stock. The store is selling the same model for $349. And sellers on Amazon are listing prices for the 4GB Mini at more than $400.
Hmmm…i think its time to get my mini up on ebay

iPod: The Missing Word Is Cool!
After watching the video release of a couple of jerks smashing up an iPod in a futile attempt at viral marketing and then reading the love and hate mail these SB’s got, it got me thinking about territories again.
I have been a Mac user since as long as I can remember and know only too well the great PC v Mac debate and rivalry over the years and it can get nasty believe me. I also use windows based PC’s as well, but just have a preference for the Mac (don’t get me started now).
So it’s clear to me now looking around the net, that the iPod is stirring up trouble again. Only this time the roles are reversed with the iPod being the dominant force.
You see for me its always been easy to love the Mac platform because i find it easy to use and logical. I think you have to be pretty smart to use a PC, mainly because the OS seems long winded and difficult for a “thicko” like me to use. And the options are endless. In fact I still struggle today even though I have moved from 95, 98, 2000 through to XP. But the Mac experience has always been a seamles one and therefor I have grown to love the product for it. Forget monopolies, as long as Apple keep doing what they do I will always love em for it.
And so Apple have done it again with the iPod. A player with minimum fuss, a no brainer to use and it works, really well. Reading Philip Greenspuns Weblog about the iPod Video versus Creative Zen Vision brings up some interesting points. Clearly looking at the two players on paper, the Creative Zen wins hands down, despite the extra $100. Bigger screen, removable battery and better resolution. All of these are valid reasons to go with a certain product when it comes to the power of purchase.
But it’s not all about spec, screen resolution or battery, sure Apple will no doubt look at these area’s in the future as the iPod evolves once again. No for me it’s about a simple little word that all the tea in China can’t buy you and that word is COOL! And there’s nothing like the pulling power of a cool brand to get any self respecting teenager to kill for it.
One brand is cool, the other i’m afraid is not and Apple eat that word for breakfast, dinner and lunch.
